A long awaited and highly deserved Return to Op-shopping (oh and blogging - hi!)

As part of my reward for not op-shopping for about 3 months, I went to my favourite strip in Belmont and went crazy! Over the five-all-next-door-to-each-other adventure, I managed to get some real gems, including these super kitsch teensy swan vessels. The biggest vases at the back are only about 15cm high, and the rest are just for jewellery and Tchotchke's (daym I love that word). They are all very lucky little things as soon they will be filled with adorable succulents and cacti, and apart from the plastic apricot guy on the right (can't part with him!), will be making their way to Osier customers! I'll post here when they're available on my facebook page, and due to there being plants involved, they'll only be available to my local fans here in Perth - sorry dudes!

p.s. I find it hilarious/awkward that the one on the left is a tourist momento from Cronulla... obviously it's back from before the place became famous for all the wrong reasons...

Mad Men Architecture Ads #1

During my past 4 years studying architecture, I've had the benefit of reading quite a few 50s/60s era architecture magazines. The adverts are always entertaining/cute, so I thought I'd share one every so often.

1920's Stylesheet

I've got a 1920's birthday party tomorrow night, and am whipping up something last minute as usual. I got so entranced by the ladies with dark lips, smokey eyes, dropped waists and finger waves, I thought I'd share them with you...

A Letter From Acorn

Hey!

awesomely dressed lass lookin at my shoe rack

simple, yet stylish

and attention to detail as well! cute-as whale belt! - we decided that whales
should be the new trend animal... move over owls!

this lass ws so laid back but awesome looking at the same time...

it might have had something to do with the carvan on her hat.
omg.

this darling from Sugar Blue Burlesque,
there was a hula hooper as well as lots of others but I was too entranced by the
hula hooper to take any photos...
SHE WAS AMASING

my little cacti table was ignored most of the day,
until right at the end when some people took
some of my green buddies home

and these are my little helpers for the day
cutest couple in the world;
Niina and Mr A :)
(Niina has issues with trustgames, this is as far as we could get her
without freakouts - teehee)
big thanks to those two for getting me lunch and stopping me from dying of boredom.xx

and thats the end of the photos, hope you enjoyed!

Thx Thx Thx

Dear Rather Expensive Vintage Dress,

Thank you for validating my decision to purchase your sparkly, sequiny goodness by winning me a bottle of wine for best dressed stallholder at Vintage Vixens and Vamps. I know we don't get to hang out as much as I'd like due to your extravagant 80s style, but I'd like to think that we're off to a good start in our relationship.

Here's to many more good times together.

Love Lauren

He's a bit strange

But has a velvet voice so he can get away with it I suppose. The "I'm off my tits" head bobbing weids me out something chronic though. Kind of like David Grey (Mr Bobblehead - go look up a video of him and you'll see what I mean), but much much much much cooler.

I would like to let you all know that the reason I have seen this is because my Dad is a fan. No other embarrasing stories behind that knowledge. Unlike a friend of mine who confessed his first concert ever was Savage Garden because he was obsessed with them. And he hadnt been to any live music since then (this was four years ago, and we are 21. You do the math).

But onto strange lead-singer antics with awesome music...

I always feel idiotic once I find out what the lyrics to a song actually are. This is one of them - I've just been kind of mindlessly humming along whenever this comes on the radio, and then I find that he's singing about "blood-buzz" - hipster vampire reference? Maybe?

I really have no idea. It's 12.24 and usually that isnt late but I have an infected sinus and throat from severe hayfever (the devil isnt a red dude with horns, its heavily brut-ed teenage boys - one of which lives in my house. that and flowers.) which means that I need much more sleep than normal but I cant cause I have a 2500 word assignment due at 4pm tomorrow and I've only written... *goes and does wordcount tool* ... 251 of them. So the knowledge that I probably will be getting very little sleep, in addition to knowing I have a vintage market I'm supposed to be ready for by now that on on Sunday and my little brother (the one that doesnt smother himself in hayfever inducing "deoderant") wont give me the commodore to lug my vintage things down to Freo makes me want to go to bed extra bad.

Gosh I wish I had written this many words in my essay instead of procrastinating here. It's now 12.39.

Sorry to have freaked you all out with my mind-spew, I seem to have a habit of doing that (my facebook friends know what I'm talking about). But I think this is the most pretentious blog post I have ever written - so feel free to deride me in the comments if you wish - or ignore this post entirely perhaps. I won't get mad.

I'm a bit strange. Perhaps Mr The National and I can have a late night chat. Once I finish this essay...

Magazine Marvels : Antler Issue 3 February

Titled "vintage", its easy to guess what the theme of the mag was, and as I've come to expect it was filled with whimsical, washed out imagery. Which although is a little overdone now in the indie world, I ADORE IT!. And yes I know it was published way back in Feb, but I only just remembered to check my online mag list today (its down the bottom of the right hand column of this blog).

Sometimes I get bored of reading artist interviews, I guess they need to be pretty special to catch my interest nowadays, having read them all the time from Etsy and Frankie/Peppermint. Antler does ask some really cool questions, like "tell us a random thing about your work" - which gets some interesting replies! But there are a lot too many in there for my tastes (Antler doesnt have anything except interviews and photoshoots - so really thats to be expected), so I skipped over more than half of them, I can really only stomach about three in a row with my attention span, I might go back and read them later if I'm in the mood.

Photoshoots. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH MY HEART ACHES. Not just Antlers ones, but photoshoots in general make me very happy. Especially couple ones where there are a boy and girl model playing pretend, I don't know why it's enjoyable to watch two rediculously good looking people together but it is. There are two different styles of photoshoot in this issue - the washed out whimsical, and the black and white crisp coture style. I like both, and I really appreciate the mix. Good work Antler.

Plus one of them is named after a Fleetwood Mac song. Extra Points.

Travel. Well I think its travel. There's a cool photojournal titled "7 minutes of being a geisha" - kind of a fashion shoot, kind of a photography exhibition, kind of a travel log. I liked the photos of random Japanese things, as thats what I end up doing on all my holidays. I end up not having any sweeping panoramas, happy snaps or food photos, just weird micro-scale things like mailboxes and flowers.

I have many favorite pages, but this one took my breath away, literally. I sat there dumbfounded for at least 40 seconds, drinking it in. You need to click on it to see it in its full-size amasingness.

So spooky and beautiful and dreamy and symbolic... a perfect last page.

So there is my first magazine review. What do you think? Should I do more, or just link to things I like and leave you guys to figure it out for yourselves? If you read it, can you tell me what you think too?

xx lauren

EDIT :: duh. forgot to link to it.

Winifred & Bance

Hi Folks,

Just dropping in to say a quick hello before I get back to drawing stairs, floor levels and joinery details. Fun fun. On the up side I did do a presentation today on Grand Designs, which meant I could watch as many episodes as I liked in the guise of "research". Kevin is such a dork.

But my reason for dropping in is actually quite different, and quite a cute story. As you might remember, Emma from dropstitch posted a photo of my succulent table at the recent Upmarket, and lots (I mean lots) of people read her blog (no, no, I'm not jealous at all) and one of those many is the lovely Delilah from Winifred & Bance. She took an immediate liking to my little cups of joy, and ordered 15 for her Inglewood and Fremantle Markets stores.

So I made them up (which involves being spiked a lot), and delivered them (woo, courier is so not my dream job, i get lost so easily.) I say this becasue I LOVE Delilah's shop, it's packed to the brim, but you still have plenty of room to move. Beautiful hats, jewellery made from teaspoons, and of course more clothes than you can look at in one day (beleive me I tried) with a FANTASTIC mens range and an even more amasing range of vintage boots... perfect for winter!

So yeah. Look at her shop, look at what I sent, if it takes your fancy. Take care of one another, xx.

Etsy Finds Feature

I am delighted to announce that my vintage store has been featured in Etsy's "Shop Local" etsy finds for Australia.

http://www.etsy.com/storque/spotlight/etsy-finds-from-a-land-down-under-6818/

A pair of shoes I was consigning for a friend were featured, and to my delight, sold the same day (today!)

Although what I find strange is it wasn't a "shop local" buyer... these little beauties will be heading off to the old US of A tomorrow!

If you wanna check out the rest of my vintage goodies, heres the link.
