Love!

This new artwork by Ali J (my good mate so I am a little biased but meh!)

"I Don't Drink Tea"

Mixed Media on canvas - collaged 1920's paper, acrylic, coloured pencil

61cm x 61cm x 4cm (16" x 16" x 1.5")

Some nights I dream about teacups. Lovely beautiful teacups. Teacups covered in patterns, flowers and gold rims. The type you find at grandma's house or like treasured hidden away in old boxes. I love the thought of collecting them, although I don't know what I'd do with them, as I don't drink tea.

Born Together

This is the first video I've ever made. Pretty cool huh? I'm so proud of me :)

Its a stop motion film created from over 300 photos taken with my Nikon D5000 on an old vintage tripod (that I scored for $5 at an opshop) in 10 or 30 second self-timed intervals.

I then used a free program called JPGVideo to collate the images into a video by dividing the seconds in the song I wanted to use by the amount of images I had (plus some wiggle room for end credits) and then using that number to space the images.

I then dumped that into Windows Movie Maker, which I had never even opened before and was delighted with how easy it was to use - didn't have to use web-help once! Once it was in there I added the audio file and the end credit image which was made by layering text over the final image in photoshop and then saving as a jpg.

Then I exported the whole she-bang and uploaded to Vimeo. :)

If you want to buy the painting, it's not sold at the time of this post - chekkit here.

Oh Why Cant People Just Be Original

Is it really that hard?

Can people not have an original thought in their head?

Must people steal from indie artists and think they can get away with it?

Sorry it's happened to you again Ali, deepest sympathies.

Read about it

Outskirts & The Cultural Centre Markets

Guess what I did on Saturday?

...yep, this little piggy went to market.

Not to sell though, uni has been WAY too crazy for me to have been able to make enough stock in time, but because this week is study break with no classes and plenty of time, I have signed up to do Perth Upmaket this Sunday coming. More about that later.

People that caught my eye:

The Ginger Fox - great vintage at VERY reasonable prices,
check out her facebook page here.

Cocoa Pod - fine jewellery,
very classy and unique, her website here.

Ali J Art & Illustration- a favourite of mine; lots of colour,
imagination and style, check it out here.

Artist-Types are Pretty Cool.

Well, in my book they are anyway. I count myself very lucky to have made some great arty-friends through etsy, and the great thing is, although we all met on an international web-forum, we talk to each other more than most real-life friends do (with some of us checking the forum for updates three times a day or more!). Plus we all "meetup" in real life quite often. When someone is having a tough time, we all lend a caring ear, and when someone is doing really well, they know we'll be cheering them on in the sidelines.

Ali J is one such friend. She's always helping others out with sweet advice and lending an ear. So when I could return the favour by attending a recent art auction she was selling at, I jumped at the chance, (never mind that I really wanted to go anyway, hehe!). She was a little nervous, but she ended up being happy with the selling price, considering everything was rediculously underpriced, one peice went for $10... very uncomfortable feeling having the auctioneer make jokes about something that someone has obviously put thought and time into.

I hope whoever took Ali's artwork home will treasure it for the awesome peice of art it is :)

Another Holiday Down South...

...And another excuse for me to stop the uni homework I'm supposed to be doing and show off my pretty pictures. This time I went to Nannup for 3-ish days, which I was a tad bummed about because I missed out on going out with Ali J and Niina, two very beautiful and creative ladies, to a group exhibition of local indie artists, of which Ali J was one!!! Please go to her blog post about it, she has the pics of her delicious work and of other things. I love reading her blog. Plus they got awesome haircuts and now look like indie-godesses. Nevertheless, heres my pictures of the holiday, prettied up with poladroid.

the kitchen mantle, i stayed at "poppy cottage"...hence the tacky plastic flowers, hehe.

kitchen again, this time i really liked the red of the saucepan.

steps at the back of the cottage, with pine trees and such. quaint.

these two are from inside the little "chopping wood room" that was attached around the back of the house. there was a lovely vintage mint-green that didnt really come through when i altered the images, oh well.

taken in the "community park" area. it reminds me of how european down south is, it's like a big southern hemispere forest. Ferns, oaks, pines, blackberries, deciduous trees. sigh. so pretty.

and yeah, this one of the walls of the cottage. the whole place was painted mission brown. most horrible colour in history of the world when used on buildings.
