Stylesheet : Doilies in Packaging

So inspired by the massive pile of paper doilies I just bought at a whopping 3c each, I went on an image search of all the cute and innovative ways crafty-types have used them to package their goods... might be stealing some ideas I think... although the only way to know is to buy something from my online shops (wow, was that an obvious plug or what!!!)...

Super Breakfast and A New Design... Pretty good 24 hours I'd say.

Pretty proud of myself really.

Ages ago I got a trunk of old fabrics and crafting stuff from a family friend, and it got put in the shed while I finished my year at uni, which can get pretty intense (think crying fits from stress, sleep deprivation and an unhealthy relationship with both coffee and certain energy drink). So up until last night I had completely forgotten it was there, and got really excited when I pulled it open and all its treasures were revealed. I felt like a crafty pirate with enviable bounty! But thought it best to start off using the more sedate stuff for my first time trying the lined zipper tutorial from HERE, just in case i messed up big time. Alterations I made to the pattern was I squared the corners to give the pouch volume, and included embellishments during construction as well as after. Turns out I could have used the really nice stuff as it went really well, and was much easier to follow than anticipated. I recommend you give it a go!

Right. Stop talking, start with the pictures!

And the second part of my pleasantness from this day was from my VERY late brekky. At my mums house there is a great mini orchard down the side of the property, and as luck would have it, this year the birds have completely ignored the fig tree, which has given us possibly the best harvest ever since we arrived 5 years ago. Which means I get snacks during the day, yoghurt/honey/figs for dessert and buttered toast with extra toppings!

Plus a really great cup of Earl, glass of OJ, and leftover sago pudding made from cute little tapioca pearls that were bright green, pink and white from an amasing asian grocer on William Street. Its made with coconut cream, palm sugar and other yummies!

So all in all, a pretty good day.

The French are Definitly Cool

While surfing last night, I clicked a magic link. This magic link provided me with both a purpose for my seldom-if-ever-used web cam, and a feeling of being in Amelie...

Noa Noa - be still my Heart

Oh my lordy.

This stuff is really nice...

... and it has, hands down, the most beautiful styling and photography I have even seen in my 20 years...

Thank you dearly Haute Design Blog.

Take a look at it all here, and their latest stuff on their website.

They even do kids stuff. Almost makes me want to change my mind about not pro-creating.

But not quite.

MOTL design competition

Head over to the MOTL blog for an exciting design opportunity with nifty prizes!

Treasure, me Hearties! Volume 3

Yay! More press, and this time its from a fellow Aussie etsy seller, Penny from Pocket Carnival. Her illustrations are so sweet, and beautifully simple, but so well done... I'd had my eye on one of her items for a while, and so I decided that I'd treat myself.... Look!

Isn't it sweet? And I know I don't need another brooch but *I dont care*, its just too cute to give up.

Ok, back to the press.

She made a lovely treasury of Australian etsy sellers and ever-so-nicely included my Christopher Print Purse! Clicky on it to see all the great Australian-y details!

Ok, gotta go make up the info pack for Made On The Left Sneak Preview at Darlington Arts Festival (this weekend coming, see MOTL website for details) as part of my Made On The Left team duties!

Yes, yes I know I didnt tell you you where I was going.

I was working on my uni stuff and self-imposed a ban on blogging. Sorry I left you all alone, I should have said goodbye. But to make it up to you I'm gonna show you what I've been up to...

Mind you, its only a smidgeon of what I did, but I'll give you an idea:

I designed an Antiques Boutique that inhabits a laneway on Howard Street, If you've ever been to Andaluze Tapas Bar you know the place.

looking down Howard Street to the river.

Interior showing bookshelf, counter and window display recesses.

And this is a long section, but its kind of hard to understand because I hadnt put in my lineweights yet...

So yeah. I'm back, relaxed and ready for the two upcoming markets;

Made on the Left sneak preview at Darlington Arts Festival

and

Made on the Left November Market on the Saturday.

Wooooo!

Mmmmmm, Birch Trees.

I love the whimsical quality of birch trees, and how they look near buildings. Renzo Piano actually used them in a courtyard with moss hills in the new-ish New York Times building, my heart nearly stopped it looked so pretty..

And then one of the artists featured in Frankie, Erin Paisley, used them in one of her artworks, along with another emblem of great whimsy, the red fox...

But what really inspired this post was an Australian designer collaborative Ink & Spindle who create the most beautiful fabric; Tegan, Bianca & Lara...

Yum.

My other Passion

...is studying architecture at uwa in perth, and i've just submitted my favourite work to date, and because i'm so very proud of it, i'm going to show you all, even though it has nothing to do with osier. it's still creativity right?

so yes, this is my album design for my computer based digital design unit. all images are either drawn in AutoCAD and rendered in Illustrator, photographs taken of a laneway near st georges in perth's cbd, or scanned hand drawn text. i'd love to hear your comments if you have the time.

- lauren (p.s. it took me 14 hrs from photography to final print)
